Course Overview: Fashion design is not just about creating aesthetically pleasing clothing; it’s about understanding the principles of design, mastering technical skills, and expressing creativity through wearable art. This course is designed to introduce students aged 16-22 to the fundamentals of fashion design, from sketching and pattern-making to garment construction and presentation. Through a combination of theory, practical exercises, and hands-on projects, students will develop the skills and knowledge needed to pursue a career in the dynamic world of fashion.

Course Duration: This course is structured to be completed online over the course of 6 weeks.

Week 1: Foundations of Fashion Design

   • Career opportunities in fashion design

Week 2: Foundations of Fashion Design

1. Fashion Sketching and Illustration
   • Basic sketching techniques
   • Understanding proportions and body shapes
   • Rendering fabrics and textures

Week 3: Foundations of Fashion Design

1. Color Theory and Fabric Selection
   • Understanding color psychology
   • Fabric types and properties
   • Principles of color coordination

Week 4: Foundations of Fashion Design

1. Pattern Making Basics
   • Introduction to pattern making tools
   • Creating basic blocks
   • Manipulating patterns for design variations

Week 5: Foundations of Fashion Design

1. Garment Construction Techniques
   • Introduction to sewing machines and equipment
   • Stitching techniques and seams
   • Constructing a basic garment

Week 6: Foundations of Fashion Design

1. Fashion Design Project 1: Design Portfolio
   • Students will create a portfolio showcasing their fashion sketches, fabric swatches, and garment samples.

Final Project: Fashion Show Students will organize and participate in a fashion show, where they will showcase their final projects to industry professionals, peers, and faculty.

Assessment: Assessment will be based on a combination of class participation, project completion, portfolio development, and final presentation.
